Genius Locci / concert in Art Cafe 17. February 2024
GENIUS LOCCI
is a musical project of two sisters and related musicians in the genre of indie folk / pop with original works sung in English.
The band from Bratislava has been on the scene since 2013. Since then, they managed to release the EP “Innate” (2014), the double album “Presence” (2016), the single “No, No” (2018) and “Daybreak” (2019). They played a lot of concerts, including festivals like Pohoda, Grape festival, Colors from Ostrava, Beseda u Bigbítu, they also played as a support band for Tom Odell or Passenger. The band was nominated for Discovery of the Year (2014) and Debut of the Year (2016) within the RadioHead Awards organized by Rádio_FM. He currently has a new release in the form of a second album called “Shifted”.
Why is the name of the new album Shifted?
“The album describes dealing with losses and changes in life and finding new meaning. Liberation and acceptance. It contains a wide range of feelings and phases that I have gone through in recent years, especially in my new role as a mother. The main motto, or the message is the transformation of negative emotions into hope and motivation to move on – a shift in thinking that happened gradually and naturally in my case,” says the song’s author Ela Boldiš. The songs are once again her personal therapy, an honest statement and offer a dose of intimacy in addition to rich arrangements or expressive melodies. The album includes classic songwriting, airy and rhythmic compositions complemented by polyphonic voices, catchy tunes, but also a slower, suggestive composition with an irregular rhythm (Sculpture).
The album was recorded and mixed at the LOFT studio in Bratislava (Jaro Žigo Jr.) and mastered by Ján Zborovjan from AudioWizzards.
The musical guests on the album are trumpeter Michal Cálik, who completed the songs Vagabond and Sculpture, and drummer Ľuboš “Ežo” Ambrozai, who also played with GENIUS LOCCI for a while. He recorded the drums for the song Daybreak. Part of the album is its acoustic live version where Roman Kovács plays the cajon and percussion and the phenomenal Ján Kružliak Jr. plays the violin.
